Analysis of music videos : Royal Blood - Out Of The Black

Throughout the video the lyrics match the visuals this is shown in first scene when the shop keeper is robbed by the rabbit. The music style consist of a heavy style and has a strong bass this is reflected in the visuals because there is a lot of violence throughout. The artist’s do not feature in their music videos very often this could be because they want the main focus to be the music and the well created music videos that go along with them.  The shots throughout the video consist of with wide angled shots or close up this is done because it allows the viewer to see the expression on the faces of the characters and the wide shots allow them to see what is going on in the whole shot and surrounding area. The first shot shows a cartoon newspaper with the headline ‘Aliens’ on it this gives the viewer a feel for what the theme of the video is going to be about. For the first 33 seconds of the music video there are no lyrics and it just consists of a cartoon style introduction along with opening credits that introduce each ‘character’. The artists themselves do not feature at all throughout the video this is also along with no one singing along to the lyrics makes it stand out compared to other music videos. After the 33 second introduction it then zooms out to show a TV that the introduction was being showed on then shows a man what seems to be a retail clerk sat on a chair watching it. As it zooms out and shows it on a TV the lyrics being.

The first set are ‘how did it feel when it came alive and took you’ these lyrics make the song seem dark and more mysterious as the sound and lyrics become much more fast paced it then shows a woman walking into the shop towards the counter holing a dog. It then swiftly changes back to the retail clerk band how he is engrossed in the TV that he is watching. At 0.52 seconds it then changes the pace of music quickly it shows the woman leaning over the counter and then you can hear a gun shot and along with this you see blood and someone dressed like a rabbit with a gun.it then changes to a shoot of the rabbit point a gun at the clerk and then taking an pile of snickers bars off the side and as he runs out the clerk presses what can be seen as an emergency button. As this happens the lyrics go ‘you made a fool out of me’ this links to the rabbit stealing from the petrol station. Throughout the whole video the snickers bar is the main feature. This gives the audience an underlying piece to focus on.

At 1.45 the rabbit gets knocked over by the police car and then as the rabbit costume head is removed the shot changes back to cartoon and then reveals an alien inside it this links back to the start of the video on the newspaper headline. The video is in cartoon when the rabbit costume has no head on it. When this is replaced back onto the ‘aliens’ head the video then changes back to normal.

At 2.30 it then shows another set of animals and foods coming out of the mist also dressed in costumes. As the violence begins between the police and the animals it then changes back to cartoon. Once this finishes it then goes back to the original style of video. Throughout the video all of the sound effects that are coming from the video i.e. gun shots are seen and also heard.  At 3.10 they stop fighting and it changes to a shot of the rabbit coming out of the mist and the retail clerk coming out of the shop.

As this happens he brings out nun chucks from his pocket and the begins to use them as the animals begin to run at him he is fighting them and the at the end when he kills them all it goes back to the original style and it shows him sitting down back in the shop with the snicker bar that was take off him. As you can see the centre of attention throughout the video is the snickers bar.
