Evaluation Question 3

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
I have showed my music video to lots of different people of different ages and genders. I have shown the video to people who also have different tastes in music this is allowing me to find out if people who like different genres enjoyed and liked the music video.

Positive Feedback

‘Editing was done well, the combination of different images and videos worked well’

The use of fast shots allowed us to create a video that looked professional and a real media product this was effective because it allowed the video to be appealing to the viewer.

‘It was effective because it created a story line to the video’

By creating a story this is allowing the video to seem realistic. This story is what allowed us to make an original video that had its own style.

‘The different ages, genders and relationships are effective in showing different people’

The use of versatile ages allowed us to create a wider audience range for the video. This also means that there are opposites throughout the video.

‘Consistent lip syncing worked well and fitted in with the song’

The lip syncing is key because this needs to be accurate to look go and be successful. The use of good lip syncing is the key element to making a realistic video.

‘Outfits and clothing went well with the style of the song and the surroundings’

By having relevant clothing this has allowed us to make the video look in place with the song and surrounding. This is helping to create a flow to the video.

‘The hand held effect to the video was effective, it made it look like home footage’

This video was intended to look like a home video style video this is good because we were able to make the video look like it was following people and their relationships.

‘The different shots of the walks and the dancing created a nice contrast between choreography work and spontaneous shots and videos’

By including different shots that are set up and others that are randomly filmed is effective because this is allowing our video to have a specific style that just includes lots of different things.

‘Good links between the lyrics and the visuals’

By creating links between the video and the lyrics this is allowing the video to flow together and be relevant to its self this is meaning we are able to make sure the video looks good and makes sense.

Negative Feedback

‘Could include more videos of younger and older people to emphasise the contrast’

We could have had more people of various ages we have included some shots of a babies and some shots of older people this could be improved by having more people from m the ages in-between this to show diversity and be more effective on the viewer.

‘Inconsistent lighting’

This is difficult to fix because of the video being filmed in different locations and having lots of different shots makes the video more difficult to maintain a constant style.

‘Studio filmed shots look a little out of place on the white background’

These shots could have been filmed outside but by having studio shots this is allowing there to be a contrast from the outdoor scenery and setting that most of the video was filmed and took place in.

‘Some of the videos were too long and didn’t all fit with the video’

Cutting down videos to allow more shot to be included would allow us to have the various shots of older and younger people into allow there to be more opposites in the video. This would also allow us to make the video faster paced and keep the viewer interested in the video for longer.

Overall

My video was successful from my reviews I have found that it is effective and the use of different shot is good and original. I think that the use of all of these different shots has allowed us to achieve a style that is diverse and means that we are able to make a product that is appealing to all audiences as there are different genders, ages and styles of people used throughout the video. From the audience feedback I have found that the majority of the comments were positive and these are all factors that we have attempted to achieve and seem to have worked and have been successful. However the negative comments mainly comment on the lighting this was a factor that we could not control therefore it become difficult however this was due to the different images and videos that we have used to achieve the story and home footage style video that we were aiming for. I have found that the audience enjoyed the colour, creativity and the locations that I have chosen this is good as it shows that the viewer have enjoyed the video and how it has been filmed. I think that overall when it comes to making a music video it is key to making sure that you do lots of audience research in the beginning before production this is allowing me to make sure that the design and the style is exactly what the audience wants in a video. I think that if I was going to remake my video I would include a more definitive concept to the video and jot as many different propel. I would include two main characters to be in a relationship and these would be the central focus of the video which would take up 70% of the video and there would be 20% other couples and then the 10% would consist of various different shots of scary which we have used in our original video. The combination of all of these different shots and by creating a definitive central focus this is the most effective because this is allowing the audience to have something that is the key element that everyone who watches the video will be focusing on. I think that the main thing that I have learnt is to create a main focus point to their video that is a universal focus point that all members of the audience of all genres will focus on and know that that is the key element of the video is and who they key characters are.

Propps Theory Evalustion

Propp's character theory

Within my music video there is no definitive hero, villain, helper or princess. I have used a main female character which could be seen as the princess. We have included Sophie as our main feature artist because this is allowing us to create a style that links to his character theory. There is a central focus of the video which is the main character allowing there to be a main feature to the video. This is a difficult theory to match to my video because most of the context is not relevant to this theory. I have only included one main chancer therefore it is difficult to achieve a definitive role for each of the peripheral characters in the video. There are lots of different character who do not have specific roles so it becomes difficult to have a main character in the video. The only main character in the video is Sophie who is playing the leader singer in the band and there are many peripheral character is this video. With our genre of alternative and indie it is difficult to create different charters and create a conflict between the charters therefore it does not occur frequently in the video where there is much conflict or the meeting of more than one person in a story telling way. Overall this is not an accurate theory to be matching with the video that I have made as it included more of a story’s style and character based music video that we have not aimed for in the production of our final product.

Goodwins Theory Evaluation

Goodwin’s 5 character aspects

-          Relationship between the lyrics and the video

Within the video I have included lots of shots and images that match the lyrics of the video. The main lyrics on the video are ‘Hey ho on the road again’ we have used this key lyric phrase to match with the images and videos that we have included in the music video. Throughout there are references to hearts and love which go with the lyrics and the videos of different relationships that have been included in the video.  This is a key aspect when making a successful video because this is what helps the video to flow well together and make sense to the audience by matching the lyrics and visuals the means that there is a connection between the two.

-          Relationship between the song and visuals

The use of different video of different people whistling has allowed us to match the video we have included different style of music to go with the video and the beat of the music. I have included lots of faster paced videos throughout the video that go well with the music that is in the song. I have included different videos of people that match the video. In the opening second scene there is a video of the main character playing the guitar which matches with the guitar that is in the song. This is creating a link with the visuals and the song for the viewer.

-          Narrative to the video (tells a story)

Within the video a story is created by the use of different character and relationships coming together in the video. This is effective because it allows there to be a scene set when people are watching the video. This is done effectively because the main female character is being the centre of the video also all of the filming is based around her. By telling a story in the video this is allowing more people to be more linking to keep on watching. This has been done in my video by showing lots of different relationships this is important because this is what allows people who are into different genres relate to the video because of the diverse selection of people who are in the music video.

-          Star image

The use of a star image is allowing there to be a centre of attention in the video. This is key because there needs to be a main artist that is portrayed in the video. This is done with Sophie this is allowing there to be a main focus to the video that is seen by all of the audience. This is shown because she is the main character who is singing and lip syncing to the video. This is effective because this is allowing the viewer to be able to easily identify who the main character is. By creating a centre of attention this is allowing there to be a universal person that all of the audience will be looking at so it is key that this is fitting to the video and the lip syncing goes well and is in time with the music.

-          Technical aspect

This is how the camera is held and how well the camera angles and work is done throughout the video. This is a key aspect because this what makes the video look professional and be effective on the viewer. The use of clothing in the video is effective because this is used to allow the video to look effective and match the style of surroundings and what the song is about. The beats in the music video are used with the camera this is used with the quick shots to show them changing or motion within the filming. The use of different setting has allowed me to achieve an original style to the music video that not many other people have made. The use of different lighting has been used to achieve different style and allow scenes of the video to be portrayed through the use of the different styles and forms of lighting.

Overall this is the best theory that matches the music video that I have made because all of the key features used in this theory are shown and used in the video that I have made. this is good because this means that I am able to base my video around a definitive theory that has been made. this was useful because this means that I have something that I can base my music video off and have the key features in the video reflected though this theory.
